Supplies
- White oil pastel or white crayon
- Cardboard
- Watercolor paint
- Paintbrush & water dish
- Scissors
- Hole punch and string
- A pencil and large plastic lids or jars to use as circle templates
Instructions for your DIY snowflake ornaments
1. Use a circle template such as a large plastic lid or jar to draw different sized circles onto cardboard. Cereal boxes work great for this!

2. Cut out the circles. Depending on the age of the child and the thickness of the cardboard, they may need help with this part.

3. Use a white oil pastel or white crayon to draw snowflake patterns onto the cardboard. Encourage kids to use their creativity to come up with some unique snowflake designs!

4. Paint over the snowflake designs with watercolors. Kids can use different shades of blue, purple and pink for an icy winter look or try bright Christmas colors for something a bit different!
You can use a watercolor paint set or try liquid watercolors for more vibrant hues.

Painting with watercolors over oil pastels is called a resist technique and one that we use often. It’s always fun for kids to watch as their design appears as they paint!

5. Once the ornaments are dry, use a hole punch to punch holes in the top of the snowflakes.
Insert string or ribbon through the hole and tie a knot.

Make easy DIY snowflake ornaments using watercolors and oil pastels. A fun Christmas and winter craft kids of all ages will enjoy!
Materials
- White oil pastel or white crayon
- Cardboard
- Watercolor paint
- String or ribbon

- Hole punch

Instructions
- Start by cutting circles out of cardboard. Using large plastic lids or jars as templates will help to make this step easier for kids.
- Use a white oil pastel or a white crayon to draw snowflake patterns on the cardboard circles.
- Paint the circles with watercolors in shades of blue, purple, and pink or any colors you like. As you paint, the oil pastel acts as a resist, and the snowflake design will appear.
Let the paint dry completely before moving on. - Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the top of the snowflakes, loop a string or ribbon through the hole and tie a knot to finish the ornament off.
