This recycled reindeer ornament craft is a fun and easy Christmas project that kids will love! Use supplies you probably already have on hand to make ornaments for your tree and that kids can give as gifts.

This reindeer craft uses minimal supplies, making it a great project for the classroom! You can use any type of red plastic lid for the nose, a pom pom or even just cut a red circle out of construction paper.

Create your own reindeer ornament craft

Supplies

  • Cardboard
  • Large plastic lid or jar to use as a circle template
  • Dark and light brown acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Googly eyes
  • Red plastic lid
  • Mini popsicle sticks
  • White glue
  • Scissors
  • String or ribbon

Instructions for your ornament

1. Use a template to draw circles on cardboard. A large plastic lid or a jar works well for this. Make sure that your circles are big enough for your googly eyes and red nose.

Cut the circles out. Some kids may need help cutting out the circles if the cardboard is too thick.

2. Paint the circles with brown acrylic paint and let it dry completely. You can choose to paint both sides but this is not necessary. Depending on the type of cardboard, kids might have to paint more than one coat.

3. Paint the mini popsicle sticks with light brown acrylic paint. You will need to paint four popsicle sticks for each ornament.

Make sure to paint the sides of the popsicle sticks as well. Let them dry completely. Kids can also choose to not paint the popsicle sticks and just use them as is.

4.  Glue the popsicle sticks together with white glue to make the antlers, like in the photos above. Let them dry and then glue the antlers to the back of the reindeer.

5. Glue on the googly eyes and the red plastic lid for the nose. Let the ornaments dry flat so that everything stays glued down.

6.  Attach string or ribbon to the back of the ornament to finish it off.

Materials

  • Cardboard
  • Brown acrylic paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Red plastic lid
  • Mini popsicle sticks
  • White glue
  • String or ribbon

Tools

  • Large plastic lid or jar to use as a circle template

Instructions

  1. Use a circle template to trace and cut a circle out of cardboard. A large plastic lid or a jar works well for a template.
  2. Paint the circle with brown acrylic paint and let the paint dry. You may have to paint two coats depending on the type of cardboard that you use.
  3. Paint 4 mini popsicle sticks with light brown paint for the antlers. Let the paint dry.
  4. Glue two popsicle sticks together for each antler using white glue. Once dry, glue the antlers to the back of the reindeer.
  5. Glue on googly eyes and a red plastic lid for the nose. Let this dry flat to ensure the glue sticks properly.
  6. Attach ribbon or string to the back of the ornament to finish the ornament off.
