How to start an art journal

Starting an art journal does not have to be a complicated or expensive undertaking! You actually only need a few basic supplies to get started that you probably already have on hand.

You can easily start with just a pencil and eraser, add in some markers or colored pencils and you’re all set!

Just print off a page in the journal on printer paper or cardstock, depending on the type of art materials that kids will use. Gather the art supplies that you need to complete the page and let kids start creating!

If kids will be using watercolors or acrylic paint I highly recommend using cardstock. I’ve included two pages of “tips and tricks” to help you get the most out of your art journal.

Once kids have finished a page in their journal, have them sign and date the page. Keep all of the pages together in a memory box or folder and it will become a treasured keepsake!
