Frightfully Easy No-Carve Pumpkin Monsters

Cute, not scary, these easy neon colored no-carve pumpkin monsters are so fun for kids to create! Perfect for kids who don’t like the scary parts of Halloween but still want to decorate their own pumpkins. There is endless color and design possibilities and each pumpkin monster can have its own personality. We used mini pumpkins for this project and I think they were the perfect size for my four-year-old to help with. They would make an adorable addition to any front porch this Halloween.

Supplies

  • Mini pumpkins, we used orange because that’s what our local farm had but white would also be good and save you an extra step
  • Neon paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Paint trays and water containers-recycled containers work great for these
  • Glue gun
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Wine cork for stamping or you could use a lid
  • Gauze
  • Sharpie for the mouths
  • Any other embellishments you think your monsters might need

Instructions

1. If you are using orange pumpkins, I suggest painting them white, this will help with the neon colors showing up brighter. If you are using white pumpkins then you are already done this step!

2. Decide which pumpkins you want to paint which colors, don’t forget about the stems. I think it looks fun when the pumpkins and stems are painted different colors.

3. Let your pumpkins completely dry before moving on to googly eyes and decorations.

4. If you are going to do the mummy pumpkin which was daughter’s favorite one, then using a glue gun (glue guns should always be used by an adult!) glue on big googly eyes and let the glue dry for a couple minutes. Or if you are using peel and stick googly eyes then you don’t need a glue gun.

5. Once the glue is dry, you can wrap the pumpkin in gauze. Just tuck the end of the gauze in at the back, no need to glue it down. And there you go, you have a mini mummy pumpkin. This was probably the easiest monster pumpkin that we did and it’s just as cute as can be!

6. For the pumpkin with green dots, it’s as simple as using a wine cork, or a lid if you don’t have a cork, and stamping the dots on the pumpkin. This was my son’s favorite one to do and again it was so simple!

7. Once the dots are dry then choose a googly eye to glue on in the center and draw on a mouth with a black sharpie. If you don’t want your child using a permanent marker then you could either do this part yourself, use black paint or you could try out a washable marker on the back of the pumpkin just to make sure that it works properly first.

8. Our last two pumpkins were also super simple. We just made sure that the paint was dry before gluing on the eyes and drawing on the mouth. The pipe cleaners added a fun touch to our purple pumpkin monster, and I love that he has 3 eyes!

We just can’t get over the cuteness of our easy no-carve pumpkin monsters and they look great on our front porch all ready for Halloween night! This is a great craft for kids of all ages and perfect for kids who don’t like scary Halloween decorations but still want to be included in the season.

Such a cute idea. We love painting our pumpkins because it gets so hot here that they get too moldy by Halloween if we carve them. Thanks for the cute idea.

Thanks Erin! It is usually pretty chilly here around Halloween time, but that’s a good point about not carving them in hotter weather.

These are adorable! Such a great idea for little ones to decorate pumpkins without having to carve them. I think my boys would love the bright colors and making their own monsters.

Thanks Shann! We have been loving no carve pumpkin ideas the past couple of years, it has made decorating pumpkins a lot easier with small kids for sure.
