Supplies
- White cardstock
- Watercolor paints in fall colors (red, orange, yellow, brown)
- Paintbrush
- Paper straw
- Water cup
- Paper towels
Instructions for your autumn tree craft
1. Paint the tree trunk
Print out the tree template onto white cardstock. Use brown watercolor paint to paint the tree. Be sure to cover the entire trunk and branches. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.

2. Add drops of fall color
Once the trunk is dry, use a paintbrush or dropper to place drops of watercolor paint around the ends of the branches and near the base of the tree. Use fall-inspired colors like red, orange, and yellow.
Remind kids to really load up their brushes with paint to get a good sized drop of paint on their paper.

3. Blow the paint
Take a paper straw and gently blow through it to spread the watercolor paint outward from the drops. This creates the look of leaves blowing in the wind or scattered on the ground.

Younger kids might find it easier to do one drop of paint at a time and then blow, to prevent their paint from drying too quickly. You can also cut the straws in half to make it a bit easier for kids to blow through.

4. Continue the process
Repeat with different colors around various branches and near the bottom of the tree for fallen leaves. Blend colors together for a beautiful fall effect.
Kids can choose to have a full autumn tree with lots of leaves overlapping, or a minimal amount with more leaves blowing down in the wind and scattered around the bottom.

5. Let it dry
Set the painting aside and let it dry on a flat surface before displaying.

This is such a fun and creative fall painting idea that kids will love! It’s easy enough for younger kids to do on their own with minimal supervision and a great project for working on fine motor skills. Kids will love trying out blow painting and having fun creating colorful autumn leaves.
