Instructions for your dandelion paper craft
1. Print out the dandelion template onto white printer paper and cut everything out. Kids can also choose to draw their own dandelions without using a template.
2. Choose a color of cardstock for the main card and fold it in half. I love how this card looks with bright colors, we used purple, blue, and pink for our examples.
3. Use the template to trace and cut out the leaves and stem out of green paper. We used cardstock but colored printer paper would also work well.
If you don’t have any colored paper, kids can use the template to color the leaf and stem green and use that for the card.
4. Glue the stem and leaves onto the front of the card using a glue stick.
5. Now it’s time to cut the dandelion flower. To help kids find the middle of the white circles so they don’t cut all the way through, fold each circle in half one way and then the other to get some cutting guidelines.
Cut thin strips all the way around each circle. Remind kids to go slow so they don’t cut all the way through the circle.
6. Take the bigger circle and cut off a few strips. Cut those strips into smaller squares. These squares will be glued onto the card for the parts of the dandelion seeds that get blown away.
7. Glue the bigger circle down first to the stem. You only need to put glue in the center of the circle, you want the edges to be able to lift up a bit for a 3D effect.
You want to glue the circle down so that the parts that are cut off are facing toward the top right or left of your card like in the example.
Take the smaller circle and glue it in the center of the bigger circle, again only gluing the center of the circle.
8. Glue down the smaller square paper bits so it looks like there are dandelion seeds blowing off the paper. Make sure that you are gluing them down in the space where you cut off the paper strips.
9. Use a black marker to write your Mother’s Day message inside the card.
This is such a fun dandelion craft that kids will love making for Mother’s Day and learning about dandelions!
