Instructions for your Canada Day Painting
1. You can either print out your maple leaf template on cardstock and cut it out or print it out on regular paper and cut that out to use as a template. Using cardstock with spin painting is the key to keeping the paper from lifting up and sticking to the sides.
The maple leaf was just slightly bigger than our salad spinner but I gently pushed it down and it seemed to work just fine.

2. Place your maple leaf in your salad spinner and squeeze on the different colors of paint.
Let kids experiment with different ways to squeeze on their paint. Try drizzling and squeezing drops of paint on to see the different types of patterns it produces. Remind kids not to squeeze too hard, a little paint goes a long way!

3. Put the lid on the salad spinner and let kids have fun spinning their creations! Younger kids might need you to hold onto the bottom of the salad spinner while they spin to keep everything steady. Once they are done spinning, open the lid to reveal their painting.
This is the exciting part! It’s always fun to see the pattern that the paint made. Carefully remove the painting and let it dry. Have fun making more!

Different ways you can use your spin painted maple leaves
- Glue them onto popsicle sticks for kids to wave at a Canada Day parade
- String your maple leaves together to make a banner
- Hang them up in your window
- Use them for table decor at your Canada Day bbq
This spin painting Canada Day craft is such a fun process art project for kids of all ages, I hope you have fun trying it out!
