This necklace craft for kids is so fun and easy to make! My daughter had so much fun making these. She used up all of the plastic lids that we had been saving and was looking all over our house for more. They make a great project for Earth Day and Mothers Day and would make a fun birthday party craft activity.
I am excited to be a part of a Recycle and Create Earth Day series hosted by Nadia at Teach me mommy. Make sure you check out all of the other amazing projects!

Supplies
- Plastic lids
- Satin jewelry cord
- Paint pens
- Jewel stickers (optional)
Instructions
1. Gather all of your plastic lids and make sure that they are clean and dry. We used white, green and brown lids and they all seemed to work great.
2. Draw on your designs with your paint pens, my daughter had fun coming up with different designs for her lids! We found that simple designs worked the best. Depending on the type of lid and the type of paint pens you might have to wait a bit for each color to dry before moving on to the next color.
3. After your lids are completely dry, you can add your jewel stickers to your lids. This part is optional, we only added jewels to a couple of our necklaces.
4. This next part needs to be done by an adult only. You will need to poke a hole in the lids, I used a nail and found that some lids were easier to poke holes in than others. Make sure that you make the holes big enough to fit your satin cord through.
5. Finish off your necklace by stringing your satin jewelry cord through the holes and tying a knot to secure the lids. Make sure you have your kids try the necklace on before tying the final knot at the top just to make sure the length is correct. I tied two knots in our necklaces to make them extra secure.
This necklace craft was a lot of fun to make and they all look so bright and colorful. My daughter is patiently waiting to collect more plastic lids so she can make more! She has promised all of her friends at school their own upcycled necklace.
